OVERVIEW

What began as an internal initiative to store and share in-house content developed by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) has now evolved into a public-facing platform designed to foster a safer world. The Hub provides a wide range of informative resources, including content guides, podcasts, videos, webinars, and eBooks, all aimed at promoting workplace safety.

With the mission of creating safer environments for everyone, the Hub offers a one-stop destination where individuals and organizations can easily access valuable resources and continue their journey toward a safer, more informed workplace.

BACKGROUND

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is a not-for-profit corporation based in Indianapolis, Indiana, established in 1969. For over five decades, BCSP has been dedicated to setting and certifying the technical competency standards for safety, health, and environmental practitioners. Learn more about BCSP.

I joined BCSP in October 2020 as the sole designer on the Software Application Development team, which includes 5 developers and one manager with support from 3 project managers. In this role, I am responsible for overseeing accessibility, usability, and providing implementation support for all software products developed by the team.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

Users faced difficulty navigating resources due to a lack of clarity on where to find specific materials. With varying levels of experience in their careers, users were unsure where to start, leading to confusion and frustration. Additionally, users often had to visit multiple platforms or locations to find the resources they needed, resulting in an inefficient and fragmented experience. The need for a centralized, easy-to-navigate hub that accommodates users at different stages of their career was clear.

THE SOLUTION

We designed a streamlined resource hub that serves as a central, user-friendly search engine for all BCSP content. The platform utilizes keyword search functionality to help users easily find the materials most relevant to their needs.

Creates a flexible learning experience to save and share content as personalized collections or favorites for easy access at a later time.
Fosters a sense of community by enabling users to view reviews from peers, providing insights into how others have engaged with the content.
Supports users in their learning journey, by suggesting related resources based on their searches, encouraging continued exploration.
Curated BCSP collections are available to guide users, especially those just starting out, on a direction of where to begin.
Integrates live event dates and details, enriching the user experience with real-time information to stay informed about upcoming opportunities.
